There are two types of compositions in Dasam Granth:
(a) Mukhvak Banis i.e. the compositions uttered and written by Guru Gobind Singh ji, and
(b) Compositions translated from some source with radical changes by Guru Sahib and making his philosophy clear in the invocations and epilogues.
In the former Mukhvak Patshahi 10 is written and in the rest Patshahi 10 is written.
The title of Chritropakhyan itself makes it abundantly clear that the composition contains stories from different sources, already told. The word Pakhyan is a Prakrit word which means a fable, anecdote or story already told.
The famous story of Joseph and Zulaika is from Bible and Quran. Nowhere any writer, including myself, has propounded the theory that it is a Mukhvak Bani.
Secondly, the editing pattern too is of Guru Granth Sahib, making no room for any interpolation. One Charitra is missing, which could not be located; similarity the last Charitra is numbered 405 and it contains 405 verses.
Thirdly, we have codices of Dasam Granth dated 1696 one in Punjab University Chandigarh and another prepared by Bhai Hardas ( grandfather of S.Jassa Singh Ramgarhia, who also prepared Damdami Codex of Guru Granth Sahib in 1684 AD ) under the supervision of Guru Sahib and duly corrected by Guru Sahib. Other codices are prepared by Bhai Mani Singh ji, Baba Deep Singh ji and few more contemporary and near-contemporary Sikhs of the Guru. One decorated Bir is at Patna Sahib and another its replica Golden Bir is in Sikh Reference Library Amritsar and about six Birs are in Chavani of Nihang Singhs at Anandpur Sahib.
Above all, recently we have discovered Pothi of Charitropakhyan, with decorated pages in the handwriting of Guru Gobind Singh ji, which you can see on my wall as well as on my (facebook) timeline.
Baba Binod Singh from the family of Guru Angad Dev ji also prepared one codex of Dasam Granth during the times of Banda Bahadur with the title Dasven Patshahi ka Granth, which means Dasam Granth. One more codex known as Sangrur Recension is presently with Punjabi University, Patiala and this is the only Recension from which the anti-Dasam Granth lobby repeatedly quote the couplet of Guru Sahib: Nishan Sikhi i Panj harf………
In spite of such overwhelming evidence if someone wants to close his eyes to mislead certain innocent people with his perjurious averments then I can only say, ”You can take a horse to a well, but you cannot make him drink the water.”
